Behavioral Health Workgroups Report

The three Behavioral Health work groups finished their work at the end of the summer. A series of conference calls and meetings between the Bureau for Medical Services and payers resulted in streamlining of some of the credentialing, reporting and pre-authorization processes to support behavioral health services in a managed care environment. A model for integration of behavioral health and primary care was developed. Finally, consensus was reached on a set of measures of quality for behavioral health.

BMS to Host Webcast about Health Homes State Plan Amendment

On October 6, 2011 at 3:30 pm BMS will host a webcast to provide an update on the State's development of a State Plan Amendment for Health Homes for Members with Chronic Conditions. This webcast is open to all stakeholders interested the development of the BMS State Plan Amendment for Health Homes for Members with Chronic Conditions. It will provide an update on activities and progress to date.

WVRHITEC Unveils New Member Benefit: Electronic Health Record Privacy and Security Toolkit

The West Virginia Regional HIT Extension Center (WVRHITEC) has developed a comprehensive toolkit to assist health care providers in understanding and adhering to federal guidelines and laws pertaining to privacy and security of electronic health records and data.
The WVRHITEC’s new Privacy & Security Toolkit is available exclusively to members and is provided as an on-line resource. The toolkit is intended to provide guidance and information to health care providers to assist them in understanding the requirements and expectations pertaining to protected health information under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and related regulations. National Registration Process Begins For Federal EHR Incentive Payment Program

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) have announced the availability of a registration process as part of new federal Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) incentive programs.
CMS and ONC are encouraging broad participation and are outlining online and in-person resources that are in place to assist health care professionals and hospitals who elect to participate and to qualify to receive these incentive payments over the next several years. Registration for the Medicaid EHR incentive program in West Virginia will be available once CMS gives final approval of the West Virginia State Medicaid Health Information Technology Plan (SMHP), which was submitted in 2010. CMS indicates that 11 states’ plans were approved by January 3, 2011 and other states likely will launch their Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs during the spring and summer of 2011.
